Lozano Finishes Top 10 overall and Secures King of the Mountains Jersey at Tour of Taiyuan

Shanxi, China — David Lozano secured the King of the Mountains jersey in the inaugural edition of the Tour of Taiyuan. The 30-year-old Spaniard seized the jersey on Stage 1 and successfully defended it to the finish of the six-day stage race. Additionally, Lozano finished eighth overall at the Chinese race, which is his second Top 10 overall this season after finishing sixth at the Tour of Rwanda.

“The Tour of Taiyuan was a great race with mountain stages, flat stages, and breakaway stages. We had the opportunity to start in epic locations such as temples. Overall, it was a nice experience to race here after the Tour of California," said Lozano. "I’m happy with how the race went, finishing top 10 and being the King of the Mountains from the first to the last day. I must thank all my teammates who were a big part of this result."

With no KOM points up for grabs on the final 100-kilometer stage, Lozano simply had to finish the parcours to guarantee victory in the King on the Mountains classification. 

Four riders animated the stage by escaping after 50 km of lively racing but ultimately were caught with 4 km to go. The stage was decided in a bunch sprint with Martin Laase (Team Illuminate) proving once again that he is the fastest man at the Tour of Taiyuan by powering to his fourth victory. In the hectic finale, it was Italian Umberto Poli who was Team Novo Nordisk's best rider on the line, taking 19th place on the stage.

American Cameron Piper, who took the Yellow Jersey in the opening stage, finished safely in the bunch and comfortably won the overall classification.
